This article aims to present the Theory of Social Disorganization, its origin, developments and its applicability in Latin American countries. It addresses explanatory variables on the dynamics and aspects of violent crime such as disorganized urban growth, population growth, poor infrastructure, socioeconomic status, racial heterogeneity and residential mobility. Thus, it can be seen that research using the principles of social disorganization can be employed in Latin American cities, especially in Brazil, to understand the dynamics and aspects of violent crime.
